How to create custom profile
All users must be assigned a standard or custom profile which determines specific functions the user can perform, what operations they can perform on data, and which types of data they have access to. There are other factors that affect what a user can see and do within the CRM application. The sharing model, role hierarchy, organizational wide defaults, record ownership, field and object level security, administrative and general user permissions also impact a user’s ability to see and manipulate data. Always remember that profiles never ever override your organization’s sharing model or your defined role hierarchy. It is essential that assignment of profiles be given adequate consideration to ensure the user can only access the data that is necessary.
There are six types of Standard Profiles available: Contract Manager, Read Only, Marketing User, Solutions Manager, Standard User, and System Administrator. However, cloning one of the standard profiles is a common method of assigning a profile to users because of the increased flexibility associated with custom profiles. Administrative permissions, object-level permissions, and general user permissions cannot be changed on standard profiles. Also, since the Password Never Expires setting cannot be modified on standard profiles, it is common for Salesforce Administrators to use custom profiles by cloning one of the standard profiles.

Note : : In a Salesforce, we can’t create a fresh profile. We can only clone a profile, which means during the creation a new profile there must be a existing profile available for cloning.
